A Message From Chris Thomas, Founder of MultiGP

MultiGP Drone Racing 2016 National Championship Chris Thomas

“In the last two years, FPV racing which is commonly called Drone Racing has grown from a select few groups to a fast growing new sport. I founded MultiGP in early 2015 and it has grown into an international group of these pilots and event organizers. Over 5000 races have been run with MultiGP since then. At first we focused on building a safe and effective way for people to run races locally. There are now over 300 active chapters of MultiGP around the world. Our next mission was to create a racing series that spanned America.
In 2016 we held a series of 60 drone races that fed into a Championship. The championship race was held in Muncie, Indiana and was the most amazing multirotor race I have ever witnessed. Shaun Taylor took first place with Jordan Temkin finishing second.
Now in 2017 it’s time to make this sport real. It has so much potential. The adrenaline you feel racing FPV is the same that other extreme sports produce but with one major benefit, you are not putting your own body at risk during the race. In addition drone racing is a perfect tool for educating and STEM. With the success of DRL on ESPN and other networks many new people are learning about this sport and thanks to the hundreds of MultiGP chapters they have a community to help them turn that interest into a sport they can play.
Now all that is missing is more pilots, more engaged educators, and a more funding for FPV racing. We have work to do but everyday we are getting closer. Thank you to everyone who has this same goal!”
